Master copying class planned

CANAJOHARIE — Yulia Levkovich will teach a 12-week master copying class from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., starting Jan. 8, at the Arkell Museum.

The class involves technical study and problem solving and encourages dialogue with artists and artworks of the past. Instruction builds on the tradition of working from close observation of a masterpiece in a museum’s permanent collection. Artists will receive personalized instruction in oils and private access to artwork in the museum’s permanent collection. Some previous knowledge of oils is required and beneficial for the class.

A materials list will be provided. The first two classes will take place in the classroom before moving to the museum gallery. The class is capped at eight students.

The cost of the class will be $180 for museum members, $200 for nonmembers. Preregistration is required, and the deadline for registration is Jan. 2.

To register, contact Jenna Peterson Riley, curator of education and public engagement at or call (518) 673-2314, Ext. 113.
