OESJ team advances to state
ST. JOHNSVILLE — Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville elementary students took second and third place in the Regional Odyssey of the Mind competition on March 10.
Teams combined their skills, creativity and out of the box thinking. They made the props and costumes with no outside assistance.
Teams had to perform an eight minute skit of their long-term problem, which was judged on style, creativity and originality. They also had to respond to a spontaneous problem.
The two ‘rookie” teams, A Stellar Hangout and Emoji, Speak for Yourself, sometimes met three days a week since October working on their long term problems and spontaneous.
A Stellar Hangout Team consisted of three second graders, three third graders and one fifth grader who wasn’t able to make the competition.
Emoji, speak for Yourself Team consisted of three third graders and three fifth graders.
Teams competed in the problems of their choice, being placed in one of three divisions, depending on their age.
New York state Odyssey of the Mind allotted for lottery slots, allowing some second place teams to advance to the State Competition at SUNY Binghamton on April 7.
Representing OESJ Elementary at the state competition is the Emoji, Speak for Yourself Team.
