Szurek named to dean’s list

BROCKPORT — Matthew Szurek, the son of Rick and Linda Szurek of Johnstown, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester 2017 at the State University of New York at Brockport, Monroe County.

Szurek is a 2014 graduate of Johnstown High School.

Ponticello named to dean’s list

CONWAY, S.C. — Anthony Ponticello of Gloversville, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2017 semester at the Coastal Carolina University. To qualify for the dean’s list, freshmen must earn a 3.25 grade point average and upperclassmen must earn a 3.5 grade point average. All students must be enrolled full time.

Ponticello is majoring in physical education.

Cook participates in immersion day

CLINTON — Avery M. Cook, the daughter of Ruthie and Stephen Cook of Fonda, and a first-year student at Hamilton College, Clinton, Oneida County, recently travelled to New York City to participate in Hamilton’s Career Center’s NYC Immersion Day. The visit allowed students to explore potential career interests through site visits, panel discussions and alumni networking.

The trip featured three different industry tracks for students to choose from: publishing, law, and the arts. Students from each track observed different professional environments through site visits with alumni at HarperCollins and Scholastic Book Trade; art gallery Kaikodo, and art agency, Art plus Commerce; and law firms Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom, and Walden, Macht, and Haran.

Cook is a graduate of Fonda-Fultonville Central High School.

Briggs named to fall dean’s list

UTICA — Kiernan Briggs, the son of Lynn and David Briggs of Fort Plain, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2017 semester at Utica College, Oneida County.

Briggs, a 2015 graduate of Fort Plain High School, is a junior majoring in risk management and insurance with a mathematics minor.
