Two scholarships available

AMSTERDAM — The General Federation of Womens Clubs Century Club of Amsterdam has two types of awards for graduating high school seniors who will be entering their freshman year of college in the 2017-2018 school year.

The Frances Bailey Scholastic Award, sponsored by the New York State Federation of Womens Clubs, will award $500 to a graduating high school senior who has been accepted by an accredited college in New York state. The selection is based upon academic achievements, leadership qualities and financial need. The Century Club will sponsor one applicant from this area as a finalist in the statewide competition. Application forms, letters of recommendation, transcripts and other materials must be received by the Century Club Scholarship chairman on or before Feb. 1.

In addition to the GFWC Award, the following local scholastic award is offered by the Century Club of Amsterdam. The S. Louise Bell Scholarship –$1,000 — is available to a graduating high school senior planning to attend an accredited college or university. This award will be based upon financial need, school record and leadership qualities. Application forms, letters of recommendation and a high school transcript must be submitted by April 30, 2018.
