14 students presented awards
The area American Association of University Women recently presented an Excellence in Mathematics and Science Award to 14 area eighth-grade girls.
The winners and their respective schools are as follows:

∫ Fonda-Fultonville — Loretta Newcomer
∫ Fort Plain — Rachel Zuppardi
∫ Gloversville — Danitza Peralta
∫ Johnstown — Sarah Pratt
∫ Lake Pleasant — Sarah Smith
∫ Mayfield — Lainna Salvione
∫ Northville — Madeline Downing
∫ Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville — Alexis Mumford
∫ St. Mary’s Institute — Lauren Mowrey
∫ Wells — Keara O’Rourke
∫ Wheelerville — Sadie Blowers
The criteria for the award were excellence in mathematics and science, the students’ genuine interest in these subject areas, and their likelihood to pursue a career in these fields. Each recipient received a certificate of recognition, a pen and a scientific calculator.
Administrators and school counselors from the larea schools assisted AAUW chairwomen Marie Wojeski and Linda Zilka in the selection of the recipients.
