Firefighters’ group OK’d
AMSTERDAM – Legislation sponsored by state Sen. George Amedore, R-Rotterdam, to create the Amsterdam Firefighters’ Benevolent Association was passed Thursday in the New York State Senate.
The bill incorporates the association and authorizes the fire department to receive foreign fire insurance funds from the city.
When the city charter was recently revised, it did not include the provision for the city treasurer to distribute the funds to the fire department.
This legislation fixes that oversight and designates the Benevolent Association to receive the funds.
The Senate gave this bill final legislative passage. It was sent to the governor for his consideration.
