Area students place in art contest

MAYFIELD – Mayfield Central School District student RJ Town won third place and $100 in the eSchoolData Login Page Art Contest.

Participating districts’ initial entries were accepted from October through November by the Northeastern Regional Information Center, which submitted the finalists.

Christopher Velazquez of the Greater Amsterdam School District won second place and $200.

Noor Ain of the Hudson City School District won first place and $500.

The following students were awarded honorable mention with a prize amount of $50: Qurat Ain (Hudson City School District), Rani Drake (Mayfield School District), Camryn Kelley (Voorheesville Central School District), and Lexi LaBarge (Copenhagen Central School District).

Contestants were required to submit works of art that focused on a specific theme relative to current educational topics, according to a news release.

This year’s theme was STEM + Art, and challenged students to find how art is incorporated into science, technology, engineering and math, the release said. Students were allowed to submit either a photograph or a scanned image of a drawing.

The first-place winner’s submission will appear on the eSchoolData login page as part of release 4.3 later this month and will remain until the next regional winner is announced, the release said. In addition, all winning submissions will be displayed on the eSchoolData website at
