Vermont trip set for Nick Stoner Seniors

CAROGA LAKE — Vice President Mary Lou Paterson opened the Nick Stoner Seniors meeting at 12:10 p.m. on Aug. 7, with an inspirational prayer by Barbara Belton followed by “The Lord’s Prayer,” The Pledge of Allegiance and Hello to your Neighbors.

Marion Snell gave the secretary’s report and Shirley Holliday gave the treasury report. Both were accepted as read.

Jean Griffin gave the hospitality report and picked the refreshment committee for the Tuesday, meeting — Martha Mongato, Myrtle Dermott and Bev Briggs; and for the Sept. 4, meeting — Kathy Powell, Janice McLaughlin and Louise Stock.

Holliday gave the membership report — the group has a new member, Beverly Barkevich. Holliday noted the seniors have nine members that are 90 plus; 15 members 80 plus; and 45 members under age 80.

McLaughlin gave the quilt raffle report — sales on the raffle tickets are going good. If anyone is interested in buying a ticket, they are $5 each and it will be drawn in November. Those interested can contact any member. McLaughlin also gave the trip report.

The next trip is Oct. 9, to the Vermont Country Store. The cost is $21 and includes lunch. Those attending will leave Johnstown McDonald’s at 7:15 a.m. and Caroga Town Hall at 7:45 a.m. and return at 6 p.m. in Johnstown.

Linda Rhinehart gave the Adopt a Highway report — she is waiting for paperwork from the highway department.

In old business: Sharon Fenstermacher made a motion to change the date of the blind auction to Sept. 4. Rosemarie Rossback second it and the motion was passed all in favor.

In new business: There will be no meeting on Nov. 6, for Election Day — the group will be having a bake sale at the Caroga Town Hall.

Fenstermacher took attendance and sold raffle tickets. There were 22 members, one guest and one new member present.

The meeting adjourned. After the meeting, the raffle was held. The winners were Belton and Holliday. The refreshments were served by Griffin, Holliday, Paterson and Barbara Hought.

The next meeting will be Tuesday.
