Bannertown picnic slated for Aug. 21

MAYFIELD — The Bannertown 50 Plus Seniors started out their meeting and luncheon day with a social hour. The Office for the Aging luncheon started with Chaplain Evie Leach reading the devotion, “The Lord will walk beside me.” “The Lord’s Prayer” followed.

Linda LaVada, vice president, opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. She also read the roll call.

Ann Mallin, sunshine chairman, reported she gave two sympathy cards to the families of Pat Ryfa and Joan Himes, club members who recently passed away.

Lorrie Valk, secretary, and Joan Bezio, treasurer, gave their reports and were accepted.

Carl Edwards asked members if they wanted to donate to the human society. It was decided to donate $50.

Valk, trip chairman, noted the information and signup sheet for the Sept. 18, trip to Gavins is now available. The cost is $45 and the sheet will be available until Sept. 7.

The group will have their picnic with their Lassellsville friends on Aug. 21. The menu will be decided and discussed at the Aug. 15, meeting.

LaVada read a thank you note from the Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church for the group’s donation to the food pantry.

At the Aug. 15, meeting, Valk and Nancy Hayes will be making the cookies. The group will have a summer themed auction and there will also be a speaker.

The meeting adjourned and drawings were held. The winners were Leach, the door prize; Ann Mallin, the 50-50; and Mid Ellithorpe, $1. All donated the money back to the club.

Valk and Leach did trivia and read humorous stories.
