Tribes Hill seniors to meet on Thursday
TRIBES HILL — The Tribes Hill Iroquois Seniors began their Feb. 1, meeting at 10 a.m. with a social hour hosted by Shirley Dado, Judy Shannon and Katherine Downing.
Chaplain Barb Furman opened the meeting with a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a reading, “Winter Silence.”
President Sherry Meyers introduced a guest speaker, Christine Oarr Eggleston, who is the author of several books titled, Murder in the Mohawk Valley. She proceeded to discuss some of the murders that she wrote about in the books. The books were on sale for $10 each.
Meyers introduced another guest, Mohawk Town Supervisor Ed Bishop. Bishop brought a check for the Tribes Hill Iroquois Seniors club from the town.
Alan Buck, another guest speaker from the Glen-Mohawk Seniors Club, discussed the new pricing for the upcoming trips.
The role was taken by Vice President Bev Fox, with 18 members and five guests present.
Barb Minch, secretary, read the minutes from the Jan. 25, meeting.
The financial report was read by Pat Schwartz and will be filed for audit.
Trip committee — Schwartz reported that more details will come on the May 23-25, trip to New Jersey. She The signup sheets are still be passed for those interested in a November trip to the Radio City Christmas show and St. Patrick’s Day trips of March 15, to the Beeches for a show and dinner and March 13, to Castle of Knights, Chicopee, Mass. for lunch and show (cost is $55 for non-members). Lu Wilmot noted the Glen-Mohawk Seniors have the Feb. 21, trip to Turning Stone (cost is $20 for non-members).
Furman announced: Next week the seniors will be having a speaker to discuss the history of Canajoharie. Furman is passing around a signup sheet for the jazz festival at Fonda-Fultonville High School on Feb. 15. The bus will pick up members at the Sacred Heart Church. Meyers announced that the group will not have a meeting on that day.
The 50-50 raffle winners were Jason Downing and Judy Shannon.
The meeting adjourned. Furman closed the meeting with our closing prayer.
