Hostess introduces Molten Lava Ding Dongs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Expanding its presence in the frozen foods aisle, Hostess Brands, LLC today announced the introduction of Molten Lava Ding Dongs®: chocolate-coated snack cakes filled with a rich chocolate creme, and ready-to-eat after just 20 seconds in the microwave.

The launch of Molten Lava Ding Dongs® follows last summer’s release of Hostess® Deep-Fried Twinkies®, a first-time entry into the freezer aisle for the snack cake company, in addition to a line of ice cream flavors inspired by the brand’s classic treats.

A spin on a classic restaurant indulgence, Hostess® Molten Lava Ding Dongs® are easily prepared, requiring only 20 seconds in the microwave followed by a brief cooling period. Consumers are then treated to a delicious mouthful of decadent, warm, chocolate creme filling wrapped in the chocolate cake of Ding Dongs® they have loved for generations.

“The introduction of Molten Lava Ding Dongs, which comes on the heels of last year’s launch of Deep-Fried Twinkies, demonstrates Hostess’ commitment to expanding its presence in the frozen food category,” said Burke Raine, Hostess Brands’ Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “With this new product, Hostess continues to push the envelope of innovation, bringing consumers restaurant-ready versions of their favorite snack cakes which can be enjoyed at home in seconds.”

Molten Lava Ding Dongs® feature a 30 percent larger cake with 60 percent more creme filling and 20 percent more chocolate coating, compared to original Ding Dongs®. The microwave-ready cake comes in boxes of ten individually wrapped cakes and is available now in the freezer aisle of retailers nationwide.

An icon of American ingenuity, Hostess® treats have been some of the world’s best known sweet baked goods for nearly a century. The category pioneer continues to lead the way in innovation, quality and creativity that captures the imagination of snack cake enthusiasts generation after generation.
