95th birthday celebrated

Marion “Bonnie” Yates Buchner turned 95 on July 13. On Aug. 2, she celebrated this milestone surrounded by family and friends at the Holiday Inn in Johnstown.

Ms. Buchner graduated from Fultonville High School in 1937, then attended SUNY Cortland, and later went on to earn a master’s degree in counseling education from SUNY Oneanota.

She served as a teacher in Fort Edward, Glens Falls, Quincy, Ma, and 25 years at Wheelerville Union Free School, and then as a director of guidance at both Galway Central School and Fonda-Fultonville Central School. She attended the White House Conference on Children and Youth at the invitation of President Eisenhower.

She married Ronald Buchner in September 1942, and together they raised four children in Caroga Lake. A lifelong dancer, Buchner established her own dance school at age 15. At age 90, she appeared on national television on the Paula Abdul “Live to Dance” program.
