50th anniversary celebrated

Vincent Ralph La Porta and Jean Francis (Aurelia) La Porta of Gloversville, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 21 at a celebration at the Pleasant Square Firehouse, Gloversville. Family and friends from across the United States were in attendance.

The La Portas met while attending graduate school at the College of St. Rose, Albany, and were married on Feb. 14, 1965, in Fort Edward.

A second honeymoon to the von Trapp Family Lodge, Stowe, Vt., was recently taken, the place where they honeymooned 50 years ago.

Their children and spouses are Mary Frances and Matthew Trainor, Margaret Ann and Christopher Allen, Anne Marie and Anthony Christiano, Karen Ann and Terry Pedrick, Andrew Vincent and Nancy La Porta and Brian Joseph and Jennifer La Porta. Their grandchildren are Seamus and Ciana Trainor, Adam and Isabella Allen, Thomas Christiano, Caleb, Logan and Jake Pedrick, and Christian La Porta.

After getting married, Vincent La Porta spent more than 35 years in education and Jean La Porta spent 27 years in education as well as raising their six children at home for several years. The La Portas have lived in the Gloversville area for 50 years. The couple are active members of the Church of the Holy Spirit and volunteer their time in numerous civic and non-profit organizations.
