Couple celebrates 50th anniversary
Katherine (Maraszkiewicz) and Karl John Hladik of Johnstown recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
They were married Sept. 5, 1964, at the former Saint Anthony’s Church, Johnstown. The Rev. Andrew B. Czechovsky officiated at the Mass, where 350 people were in attendance. Marilyn Hladik was the maid of honor and Richard Maraszkiewicz was the best man.
The couple immediately purchased a home and renovated it, and they have resided there for 50 years. They enjoy beautifying their spacious flower and vegetable gardens, which surround the home. They also enjoy feeding wild birds and taking day trips during their retirement.
Kathy worked at the former General Telephone Company of Upstate New York until she left work to remain home and raise their three children. John was employed at Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. and later at Fulton-Montgomery Community College until his retirement.
The Hladiks have three children: Nancy Spencer of Johnstown, Melissa Hladik of Atlanta, Ga., and John Hladik of Gloversville; as well as a granddaughter, Daviannah Spencer of Johnstown.
An anniversary trip is planned to Cancun, Mexico, with their children.
