Barbara M. Johnson Johnstown - Barbara M. Johnson, passed away early on March 21, 2024, at St. Mary's Healthcare, Amsterdam.

She was born in New York City, a daughter of William and Virginia Falkenburg and was a graduate of Yorktown Heights High School and the Foundling Hospital nursing school.

Barbara was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glenville for many years and served as a council member. In July of 1975, she married Earl Johnson, Jr. and served with him at the West Charlton United Presbyterian Church, the First Presbyterian Church of Plattsburgh (where she was ordained as a deacon and a ruling elder), the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsford NY, and the First Presbyterian Church of Johnstown.

In 1978 Barbara opened her first retail store, The Wearhouse in Plattsburgh, selling antiques, "junque" and clothing for college students. In 1989 she renamed her store The Parson's Wife in Pittsford (along the canal). In 1998 she set up The Parson's Wife on Main Street in Johnstown and other locations before she retired. She also operated a longstanding booth at Schoolhouse Treasures in Broadalbin.

Barbara was involved in many local city activities wherever she was and taught church school and Logos in Plattsburg and Pittsford and witnessed to her Christian faith in word and actions. Along with her friend, Marlene Andress, she established Home Furnishings in Schenectady.

She is painfully missed by her husband, The Rev. Dr. Earl S. Johnson, Jr., and her children, Michael (Christine) Wert of Coal Township, PA, Kathryn (Chuck) Murphy of Leesburg, VA, and Susan (Seth) Carr of Victor, NY. Barbara was very close to her grandchildren, Michael Wert II, Nicole (Shea) West, Alexander (Eylűl) Hassanzadeh, Schuyler, Sydney, and Sloane Carr; her two great granddaughters, Teagan and Devon West; and her brother, William (Jackie) Falkenburg East Hampton, NY.

Her family wishes to thank the staff at St. Mary's Healthcare and the Wilkinson RHCF, and Dr. Emily Etzkorn for the care that was provided to Barbara.

A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 2 p.m. , at the First Presbyterian Church, 37 South Market Street, Johnstown, NY 12095. A reception will follow. Donations may be made at the church.
